TRAINING/EDUCATION
SOCCER IS LIFE
As mentioned on our home page, the general objectives of our Recreational Soccer program are for kids to improve their basic athletic ability, learn soccer techniques and skills, have fun, and learn and practice good sportsmanship. At BRSA we provide the following tips, links, videos, etc. as useful information to help the player, the coach, and the parent.
They’re Only Kids. It’s Only a Game.
As quoted in the US Youth Soccer Coaches Guide, "Allow your child to be a child. Kids see soccer as fun, learning new skills, emulating heroes, being on a team, gaining success by touching the ball, and just being involved. Soccer can teach skills for life, building character, self-esteem, and awareness of others. There’s no such thing as a loss if players do their best. You’ll see wonderful progress if fun and skill development are your priorities."

Referee Resources and Information
Football/Soccer is a global sport and its rules must be interpreted and applied with absolute consistency wherever the game is played. FIFA therefore has a policy of ongoing training for its referees to ensure that refereeing standards continue to improve and the Laws of the Game are applied the same way everywhere.
U.S. Soccer is committed to producing referee education resources aimed at supporting the nearly 150,000 officials across the country regularly working amateur games at the youth and adult levels. (Note: There is an exceptionally good set of videos that cover the laws of the game located on the US Soccer's Referee Media Center webpage.)
Maryland currently has approximately 2,000 certified referees working at all levels of the game. Maryland’s Referee Program is aimed at constantly improving the abilities and opportunities for our referees. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our referees and they are held to a very strict standard of professionalism.
Want to become a Referee? If you are interested in becoming a USSF certified referee, check out the following Maryland Referee webpage for Entry Level Referee Courses.
